I don't regard prejudice as my problem, it's the problem of those who practice it. When someone said to me:-
"but she has changed a little, become more aware and one has to believe people can change, develop out of their prejudices."
This seemed irrelevant to me, part of the same practise which said, we, disabled people, must educate non-disabled people about ourselves. Why?
If I am equal I have a right to be angry/hurt about your prejudice, your oppression of me, whether or not you understand what my anger/hurt is about. If I have to be explained, by me or anyone else, I am not equal.
You might not know but that doesn't mean I have to explain. This is my choice not your right.
Your ignorance, willful not-knowing is your problem. My energy is not to be deflected to your need, your dominance, even if in ignorance.
I speak to me to be me - to validate my being, my right, to show your ignorance not to change it, that is YOUR WORK
